World Fiddle Day

slider6

So many tunes

Whole tunes, fragments of phrases,

Tunes I love, tunes I loathe (for no fiddler lacks an opinion)

Earworms that won’t go away till I play them for an hour

And then they never go away! Hah-Hah!

Who says a tune doesn’t have a sense of humor!

So many people

Old fiddlers, young – women, girls, boys, men

People who feed musicians, people who play pianos and guitars,

Who organize events so they can smile from the back row,

Whose love commits them to weekly Sunday afternoons

As a DJ at the local radio station

Or a lifetime behind a luthier’s bench

So many styles

Go around the world

Scratch a culture, find a fiddler

Where people dance, there’s a fiddle or its kin

Easier to find a people

Without fiddling than to list them all

So much feeling

The bow on the string

Opens the heart

We forget

For those brief moments of sound

That we are grounded

And not flying

So little time

Love the music

So little time

Love the dance

So little time

Love the people

So little time

Love the journey

So little time

Pass it on
